Basic Dog Obedience training should be the very first training your newly acquired dog should receive. Speed of learning and cooperating depends on whether your dog is a puppy or an adult dog.

A puppy can be educated faster than an adult dog. An adult dog may take more time adjusting itself to you and your home. With an adult dog you can start training after a fortnight of acquiring him. With puppies you can start a week after it comes into your home.

Basic dog obedience training can be done by you. These are simple commands that will make your life easier with your pet. It will also make your dog and you become closer and understand each other. Some of the commands in the basic training are simple and can be learnt within a day or two. Though some others could take a week, your dog will be much better dog when trained.

Some of the very basic commands are taught under the basic dog obedience, these are:

* Come: To teach your dog to come to you;

* Stay: To teach your dog to stay where it is and remain unmovable

* Sit: To teach your dog to sit;

* Stand: To teach your dog to stand in one place;

* Heel: This is useful when you are taking a walk and need to stand to talk to someone or take rest

* Down: To teach your dog not just to sit, but squat down completely.

These commands are simple enough and require you to be persistent and a little strict with your dog. You will learn how to reward the dog, when to gain physical contact when training and times to avoid it, etc.

You will find ways to basic train your dog in a few different places on the internet. I personally recommend looking for an ebook where you can take it step by step and train your dog the right way the first time.
